It's way past time for a Gerby Derby update. We've had a busy month. Punches and Kicks came home to Houston and settled in really well. Kicks makes a funny kissing noise when he gets irritated; I've never heard anything like it. Punches, it turns out, is a pied nutmeg like his daddy. He's molting now, and it's so fun to watch his pumpkin fur change slowly to brown and black.
I didn't share this last month because I was pretty sad about it, but our Jane developed a cyst behind her ear. She kept it well hidden, and the infection spread to her brain. She was spunky to the last, making sure all the other gerbils in her tank were clean and orderly.
When I went to pick up Punches and Kicks, Greta at Cedar Moon asked me if I would like to take one of her girls home. Norgana is an experienced mother having raised two litters on her own. She's a dark-eyed honey like Janey was, but Norgana has a gene that lightens her coat. She has such a sweet personality and she had such genetic potential with Fievel that I couldn't resist. It seemed strange, to take a new female so soon after losing Jane Fairfax, but it also seemed right, too. |
Which brings me to exciting news - the Gerby Derby is back in business! Introductions between Norgana and Fievel are going well. They seem to be a very laid back, gentle couple. I really hope that they find companionship together, and that their pups are fluffy and friendly. I know Norgana is a good mother, so I know that this round of breeding should go much more smoothly. Get ready for some adorableness in the next few months, and let me know if you're interested in reserving some of their kiddos for your very own!
